How an ICL works

IOLs are intraocular lenses that are most commonly referred to in cataract surgery where the natural lens in the eye is replaced with a new “intraocular lens”. There are some intraocular lenses that don’t replace the natural lens in the eye and are designed to provide a permanent correction. The lens we implant is the Visian Implantable Collamer Lens also known as the Visian ICL. Using this lens technology leaves the natural structure of the eye intact. This is preferred in case the ICL should ever have to be removed. The ICL has a unique negatively charged collagen which reduces long term inflammation. This is ideal for quick recovery and an almost indefinite length of use.

LASIK vs ICL - Is LASIK or the ICL better?

LASIK is a great choice for most patients. However, some patients are not candidates for LASIK. When you are not a candidate for LASIK, the ICL is an excellent choice. It is more expensive, however, the results are typically extremely good with minimal side effects.
